A sign of things to come?

A slew of pictures of the PSP 3.0 firmware have apparently been uncovered, and it looks like the PSP will be getting some very cool add-ons in the near future. Of course, none of this can be confirmed confirmed however they do appear to be legit. At least it seems that way for now…

Here’s a rundown of what we might expect:

Sony Mail - The PSP gets its own email client that will be tied to your PSP’s unique id number. (could this be hinting at something the PS3 will include as well?) It’s being said that you’ll be able to create a unique user name so you can avoid being known as 45645756875.

Sony Paint - Making little doodles in Paint is fun, for about 4 seconds. This one isn’t that thrilling if you ask me. On the other hand, if the PSP were to somehow end up with a game similar to Animal Crossing (how great would that be!?) then maybe we could use the paint program to design custom in-game graphics.

Alarm Clock - Might be useful to wake you up from a cat nap. Then again, don’t most cell phones have this already?

Sony Organizer - Interesting to say the least. PDA functionality seems to be Sony’s next addition to the PSP’s firmware.

Writepad - Um, there’s nothing to write with, unless you consider typing at 5 words per minute with the PSP’s built-in keyboard efficient.

Console Security - Protecting your email, organiser and internet browsing will apparently become very simple.

Connect to Music Store - Is Sony finally putting their Connect service to good use? Get all the music you want without touching a computer.

And, last but not least:

PS3 Hard Disk - What’s that? 14.6 GB of free space in the hard drive? After seeing this picture and a 20 gig hard drive reduced to 13 gigs on the Xbox 360, it makes me wonder if Sony might throw in a 20GB HDD and have about 5.4GB of space partitioned. Who knows, even though I’d love to see them do it, I am still not counting on a hard drive coming with the PS3, and neither should you.

On another note,
another analyst expects Sony to make a PS3 announcement soon
. In fact, he expects a keynote address tomorrow morning. Expecting anything tomorrow is not something anyone should do, so just relax and be ready for some information from Filed under PSP, Gaming |
